BeatRoot play traditional Manding rhythms from West Africa

BeatRoot are part of the Cupar Djembe Workshop that meets every two weeks at the YMCA in Cupar, Fife, and is supported by Awards for All and Fife Council.

Our group was formed in 2007 although most of us have been playing together since 2005. With tuition from Steve Haden, we have built up a repertoire of traditional Manding rhythms from Senegal, Guinea, Gambia, Mali and Bourkina Faso.

We believe in celebrating the cultural richness of West Africa through drum, dance and song.

During 2007 we played several community arts festivals, we busked at Edinburgh fringe, we supported Fife Afro-Caribbean Association, and played at several workshops as well as being part of the evening entertainment at the excellent African Drum Village in Glen Isla.

2008 saw us play at St Andrews University Student Union, Cosmos Centre St Andrews, The Cottage Mental Health Resource Centre Cupar, Oakley Gala, Townhill Gala, Blebo Craigs Village Hall, Springfield Gala, Charleston Gala, and again at Glen Isla.

We could play at your community arts event!
